Introduction

"An Epitome of Class, Quality and Discipline"

The Daily Life of a Prefect

A Prefect of Ananda College could be defined as a unique character whose discipline, punctuality, and sense of duty set him apart. Unlike an ordinary prefect of the Sri Lankan school system, the Prefectship title of Ananda College is held in high esteem and clearly highlighted in every aspect of student leadership. The daily life of an Ananda Prefect begins before dawn, with duties starting as early as 6.00 a.m. Dressed in full attire, they arrive at school ready to take on their responsibilities. By 6.10 a.m., those assigned to the key entry points ensure the safe admittance of students, while by 7.10 a.m., prefects are stationed at their duty points to prepare for the morning assembly. Their tasks include welcoming students, maintaining order at the gates, and lining up every student before the assembly at 7.30 a.m., ensuring that the school day begins in safety and discipline. Throughout the day, prefects play an important role in maintaining order and guiding their peers. Their responsibilities extend from sports to extracurricular activities, balancing commitments to both the College and the Prefects' Guild. This role is not only one of leadership but also of collective duty and responsibility, ensuring that the highest standards of behavior are upheld within the school. Even after classes end, prefects remain active, conducting afternoon inspections and often staying longer to handle emergencies, whether assisting an injured student, resolving disputes, or ensuring the safe departure of all students. In every aspect of their daily routine, Ananda Prefects embody dedication, discipline, and responsibility, standing as role models for their fellow Anandians.
